Experience:
Ria joined the Firm in 1999 and worked in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group for more than 19 years before becoming an Attorney-at-Law. During this period, she acquired considerable knowledge and experience in trademark post-registration matters.
Ria manages a significant part of the post-registration portfolio for several large multinational conglomerates in which she comprehensively advises on inter alia assignments, mergers and acquisitions, changes of name, licenses and security interests.
She handles all substantive trademark office actions and has gained a reputation for successfully challenging most of the refusals, with her detailed and well-reasoned arguments.
Ria provides support to the Intellectual Property Practice Group in other non-contentious as well as contentious intellectual property related matters including but not limited to trademark oppositions, advising on International Registrations via Madrid Protocol, Trademark and Copyright Infringements and Customs Enforcement.
In October 2023 Ria was appointed to lead the firm’s Probate Department, where she is responsible for overseeing all probate and estate administration matters, ensuring compliance with legal requirements while delivering efficient and client-focused solutions. Known for her meticulous approach and strong attention to detail, Ria is committed to guiding clients through the probate process with clarity, professionalism, and care.
She is a member of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago, INTA (International Trademark Association) and IPCA (Intellectual Property Caribbean Association). Ria is also the firm’s representative on the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association.
