Experience:

David Clarke joined J.D. Sellier + Co. on 1st September, 1966 after his graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Cambridge, England, and served the firm as an articled clerk. He was admitted to practice on November 24, 1969, when he became an associate of the firm and was admitted to the partnership on May 14, 1971. In 1970, he obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Cambridge.
David Clarke is currently the firm’s Senior Partner and also the most experienced attorney on the Corporate + Commercial team. His practice covers all aspects of the corporate and commercial law. He represents the firm’s clients in a wide range of commercial transactions, in particular, the establishment of large commercial or industrial projects including the preparation and approval of material project contracts on behalf of project parties; project financing through local and international lenders; mergers and acquisitions; joint ventures; takeovers, land development projects; insurance and corporate governance. David renders general corporate or commercial advice and advice on environmental issues. He also acts for both lenders and borrowers in a range of transactions in banking and finance.

David holds directorships in private and publicly listed Trinidad and Tobago companies, including Ansa McAl Limited, Trinidad and Tobago Insurance Limited and Tatil Life Assurance Limited. He has acted as presenter/panellist at seminars and workshops arranged by clients both for their staff as well as for members of the public.

David has also published articles on subjects of corporate and commercial law, banking and finance and in the area of securities regulation.
