Experience:
Shiva was a former Patent Examiner at the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Legal Affairs for 6 years during which period he obtained his Bachelor of Laws from the University of London External Programme. He subsequently resigned from the Intellectual Property Office to pursue and complete the Legal Practice Certificate at Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom.
Prior to his stint in the field of intellectual property, Shiva obtained his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with a minor in Entrepreneurship from the University of the West Indies and has worked in the technical departments of National Flour Mills and Caribbean Chemicals and Agencies Limited.
Shiva has attended several training programmes in the areas of substantive patent examination and trademark classification at the Intellectual Property offices in the Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland and has acquired considerable experience and practical knowledge in research methodology which is critical to conducting trademark and patent searches as well as technology licensing and branding.
Shiva joined the Firm on August 3, 2015 and is attached to the Corporate and Commercial Department. His practice includes a broad spectrum of corporate work for both local and foreign entities, financial institutions and private individuals. Shiva also advises on a wide range of matters, including acquisitions, joint ventures, company incorporation, maintenance and reorganisation, corporate governance, share sales and the drafting of corporate and commercial agreements and leases for properties. His practical experience has added great value to the department and to his clients.
